Study Abroad Leader Invites Students and Parents to go to Prague with Jill

STAMFORD, CT – October 24, 2009 – This fall, the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS), the nation’s leading study abroad provider, invites students and parents to go abroad with Jill – a free multimedia study abroad experience following a college junior during her fall semester abroad in Prague, Czech Republic.

Jill O’Connor, a junior at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT, will share all of her experiences from her study abroad trip online – from packing before she departs to her flight home in December. The result is a first-of-its-kind, real-time interactive experience designed to educate potential students and their parents about the amazing opportunity that is study abroad.

Jill will use social media outlets such as her blog, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook to provide easy access to her travels and related stories. Jill’s Prague Blog (http://jillspragueblog.wordpress.com/) will serve as the center of the Jill project, where she will tell of her experiences and post videos and photos of her study abroad adventure. A Twitter feed of Jill’s “tweets” will also be included on the blog. Students and parents are encouraged to leave comments for Jill or ask any questions they may have that might help them learn more about studying abroad.

“Studying abroad is extremely important in today’s global society,” states Mike DiMauro, AIFS’ vice president of marketing. “It opens doors, expands horizons and gives students an edge in a very competitive job market. AIFS hopes that the Jill experience will help to enlighten not only students considering study abroad, but also those who know very little about what it entails.”

The project will capture the sights and essence of her trip and also focus on the fine details of studying abroad, whether it be with AIFS, a university or another provider. In addition, several times throughout the semester, Jill will host a question-and-answer session where interested students can converse via live chat.

“I’m excited to share all of my experiences while in Prague,” states Jill. “I want students to feel like they are abroad studying with me so that they can feel what it’s like and know what to expect when they head out on their own study abroad adventure.”
