Research
study shows Renzulli Learning System
raises student
performance
A controlled study of elementary and intermediate
school students completed early in 2007 (Field) demonstrated
the Renzulli Learning System significantly improved
the academic performance of students who used the system
for 2-3 hours per week compared to students who did
not. Renzulli Learning was demonstrated to significantly
improve the performance of students in oral
reading fluency, reading comprehension, and social
studies achievement.

This is the first rigorous academic study to be completed
since the system was introduced in 2005. The study
involved 198 students in an urban middle school (grades
6-8) and 185 students in a suburban, middle class elementary
school (grades 3-5). Specifically, students who were
randomly assigned to use Renzulli Learning for 2-3
hours per week were compared to a control group that
was not exposed to the system. Performance growth was
measured after 16 weeks, using the Iowa Test of Basic
Skills (ITBS). Reading fluency was measured using individually
administered curriculum-based measures of oral reading
fluency.
