STAMFORD, CT – JUNE 1, 2012 – The American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS), a leading study abroad organization, is pleased to announce that three participants on their Shakespeare’s Globe Theater program have received a Fulbright Summer scholarship, one of the most prestigious and selective summer scholarship programs in the world.

Ariel Clark-Semyck, a freshman at the University of Notre Dame; Ross Mumford, a sophomore at Nebraska Wesleyan University; and Tara Olivero, a sophomore at Ball State University, were selected from a strong applicant pool to experience the United Kingdom on the Shakespeare’s Globe Theater program this summer. The Fulbright scholarship covers all participant costs and provides a network of support and alumni opportunities.

Students on the Shakespeare’s Globe Theater program will have the unique opportunity to study intensively with actors, directors and other theater practitioners on site in this remarkable and historic location. During the three-week program, lectures and seminars are supplemented by movement and voice workshops, scene rehearsals, question and answer sessions with Company members, a visit to the Globe exhibition, a backstage tour and combat and sword play workshops.

“It is a tremendous honor for our Globe Theater program to be designated as a Fulbright Summer Institute,” states William L. Gertz, President and CEO of AIFS. “We are delighted that three AIFS participants have been selected for this unique scholarship and wish them all the best during their time abroad.”

Created by treaty in 1948, the US-UK Fulbright Commission is the only bi-lateral, transatlantic scholarship program, offering awards and summer programs for study or research in any field, at any accredited US or UK university. The Commission is part of the Fulbright program conceived by Senator J. William Fulbright in the aftermath of World War II to promote leadership, learning and empathy between nations through educational exchange. Award recipients and summer program participants will be the future leaders for tomorrow and support the “special relationship” between the US and UK.

In making these awards, the Commission looks not only for academic excellence but a focused application, a range of extracurricular and community activities, demonstrated ambassadorial skills, a desire to further the Fulbright Program and a plan to give back to the recipient’s home country upon returning.

AIFS offers programs in Australia, Austria, Botswana, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czech Republic, England, Fiji, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Peru, Russia, South Africa, Spain and Turkey. All AIFS programs are comprehensive and include housing, meals, transcripts, insurance and a rich variety of built-in cultural activities and excursions. Additional scholarships and financial aid are also available.
