High School Students Can Study Abroad, Get a Head Start on College
STAMFORD, CT – November 12, 2013 – This summer, high school students can get a head start on their college education and study in some of the world’s most desirable locations with the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS), now in its’ 50th year of providing quality educational and travel programs for students.
In 2014, AIFS Summer Advantage offers students ages 16 to 18 the opportunity to live and study abroad in one of five exciting international cities, earning college credits while enjoying the cultural exchange experience.
The 3-week study abroad program for high school students is hosted in San Jose, Costa Rica at Veritas University; London, England at Richmond, The American International University in London; Paris, France at the University of Paris IV, Sorbonne; Rome, Italy at Richmond, The American International University in London’s Rome campus; and Granada, Spain at the University of Granada. Students are awarded official transcripts by each university at the completion of their program.
“For high school students, studying abroad is a tremendous opportunity,” states Maura Cassells, AIFS Summer Advantage Director. “Young adults are able to become independent thinkers, global citizens and stronger college candidates, all while having one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences of their lives.”
Summer Advantage provides participants with the opportunity to experience an international educational program in a prestigious university setting and get a head start on one or more of the subjects they wish to study during college. Students receive a taste of university life before enrolling in college and help strengthen their prospects for acceptance at a leading university through foreign language study or liberal arts courses abroad.
“Attending the London Summer Advantage program in 2006 gave me my first true taste of independence,” states Addie Saloman, AIFS Summer Advantage alum and current employee of the Academy of Country Music. “The city of London provided the ultimate platform for me to experience a different culture, navigating all the opportunities my newfound freedom provided. The AIFS professors were knowledgeable about their subjects, and the classes were engaging. I am eternally grateful for the confidence the AIFS program helped me to find within myself.”
