Study Abroad Scholarships Available for Connecticut High School Students

STAMFORD, CT – March 13, 2014 – Connecticut high school students will receive scholarships worth $500 to study in some of the world’s most desirable locations this summer while getting a head start on their college education with the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS).

AIFS, celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2014, recently received an official citation from State Senators Carlo Leone, 27th District and L. Scott Frantz, 36th District, offering congratulations for providing 50 years of life-changing study abroad opportunities. The citation states that “the efforts of AIFS help students gain insights to creating global harmony in a rapidly shrinking world.”

To give back to the state that AIFS has called home for decades – and as part of AIFS’ 50th anniversary celebration – high school students in the state of Connecticut will receive the $500 scholarship to live and study abroad in one of five exciting international cities when they apply by March 31.

AIFS’ Summer Advantage program offers students, ages 16 to 18, the opportunity to earn college credits and enjoy the cultural exchange experience, while getting a head start on their college education.

The 3-week study abroad program is hosted in San Jose, Costa Rica at Veritas University; London, England at Richmond, The American International University in London; Paris, France at the University of Paris IV, Sorbonne; Rome, Italy at Richmond, The American International University in London’s Rome campus; and Granada, Spain at the University of Granada. Students are awarded official transcripts by each university at the completion of their program.

“Studying abroad is a tremendous opportunity for everyone, especially high school students,” states Maura Cassells, AIFS Summer Advantage Director. “We are very excited to offer an opportunity that will help Connecticut students study abroad, an experience that has proven to help young adults to become independent thinkers, global citizens and stronger college candidates.”

Summer Advantage provides participants with the opportunity to experience an international educational program in a prestigious university setting and get a head start on one or more of the subjects they wish to study during college. Students receive a taste of university life before enrolling in college and help strengthen their prospects for acceptance at a leading university through foreign language study or liberal arts courses abroad.

Interested students and educators can request brochures, scholarship information and materials, by visiting the web at www.AIFSSummerAdvantage.com, by calling (800) 913-7151 or by e-mail at summeradvantage@aifs.com. AIFS also offers study abroad programs for college students.
